Antioxidant product analysis of Folium Hibisci Mutabilis

Folium Hibisci Mutabilis, a new member of Chinese Pharmacopoeia, can treat some diseases induced by reactive oxygen species. The study prepared a lyophilized aqueous extract of Folium Hibisci Mutabilis (LAFHM). LAFHM was found to enrich eight flavonoids (i.e., quercetin, luteolin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, rutin, kaempferol, tiliroside, and vitexin) by HPLC analysis. These flavonoids were further compared using antioxidant assays, where triliroside and vitexin always exhibited higher IC₅₀ values than the others. In ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry analysis, these flavonoids could basically give two characteristic m/z values (226 and 196) and their corresponding double m/z values (i.e., 602, 570, 926, 926, 570, 1186, and 862), when treated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazl radical (DPPH^?). Finally, the coupling products of DPPH^?-treated triliroside were investigated using computational chemistry. It was found that the –OH in para-coumaroyl moiety to have the lowest bond disassociation energy among all phenolic -OHs in the triliroside. In conclusion, Folium Hibisci Mutabilis contains the above eight antioxidant flavonoids. Despite of the different antioxidant levels, they can generally produce flavonoid-radical coupling product and flavonoid-flavonoid homodimer during antioxidant process. Especially, tiliroside uses para-coumaroyl as linker to construct a tiliroside-radical coupling product at the meta-carbon atom.

An Upper Bound for the w-Weak Global Dimension of Pullbacks

Let R be a commutative ring with identity and I0 an ideal of R.We introduce and study the c-weak global dimension c-w.gl.dim(R/I0) of the factor ring R/I0.Let T be a w-linked extension of R,and we also introduce the wR-weak global dimension wR-w.gl.dim(T) of T.We show that the ring T with wR-w.gl.dim(T) =0 is exactly a field and the ring T with wR-w.gl.dim(T) ≤ 1 is exactly a PwRMD.As an application,we give an upper bound for the w-weak global dimension of a Cartesian square (RDTF,M).More precisely,if T is w-linked over R,then w-w.gl.dim(R) ≤ max{wR-w.gl.dim(T) + w-fdR T,c-w.gl.dim(D) + w-fdn D}.Furthermore,for a Milnor square (RDTF,M),we obtain w-w.gl.dim(R) ≤ max{wR-w.gl.dim(T) + w-fdR T,w-w.gl.dim(D) + w-fdR D}.     

Thermally driven self-healing PEDOT conductive films relying on reversible and multiple Diels–Alder interaction

Thermally healing capability of cracks and defects is important and urgent for the safe operation and life extending of electric materials and devices. Here, by the combination of thermally driven reversible Diels–Alder (DA) interaction and in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT), a series of intrinsically conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/DA composites possess intrinsically self-healing property under low-temperature (reverse DA reaction at 100°C; DA crosslinking at 60°C) stimulus were achieved. The crosslinking DA bonding reactions are multiple from the co-existence of pre-synthesized macromolecular polyurethane attached DA units (PU-DA) and 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diol (DADOL) in the films. PU-DA involved in the polymerization process of EDOT to endow PEDOT with outstanding solution-processability, uniform film making, and structural self-healing capability, while DADOL was added to enhance the cross bonding between polymer chains. This work will accelerate the research and application development of intrinsically self-healing conducting polymers for commercial capacitors, antistatic coatings, implantable, printable electronics, and so on.     

Oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids in water catalyzed by cobalt(II) Schiff-base complex anchored to SBA-15/MCM-41

Cobalt(II) Schiff-base complexes were successfully anchored to SBA-15/MCM-41 and used as a catalyst for the oxidation of aldehydes to afford carboxylic acids in water under the action of hydrogen peroxide. Reaction conditions, such as different catalyst type, reaction temperature, reaction time, solvents media, and catalyst amount were studied systematically. High yield (up to 98%) of the process was reached. Such substrate-supported catalyst can be reused up to five times without significant loss of its catalytic activity which is not lower than 85%.     

Formation and Reactivity of Organo‐Functionalized Tin Selenide Clusters

Reactions of R¹SnCl₃ (R¹=CMe₂CH₂C(O)Me) with (SiMe₃)₂Se yield a series of organo‐functionalized tin selenide clusters, [(SnR¹)₂SeCl₄] ( 1 ), [(SnR¹)₂Se₂Cl₂] ( 2 ), [(SnR¹)₃Se₄Cl] ( 3 ), and [(SnR¹)₄Se₆] ( 4 ), depending on the solvent and ratio of the reactants used. NMR experiments clearly suggest a stepwise formation of 1 through 4 by subsequent condensation steps with the concomitant release of Me₃SiCl. Furthermore, addition of hydrazines to the keto‐functionalized clusters leads to the formation of hydrazone derivatives, [(Sn₂(μ‐R³)(μ‐Se)Cl₄] ( 5 , R³=[CMe₂CH₂CMe(NH)]₂), [(SnR²)₃Se₄Cl] ( 6 , R²=CMe₂CH₂C(NNH₂)Me), [(SnR⁴)₃Se₄][SnCl₃] ( 7 , R⁴=CMe₂CH₂C(NNHPh)Me), [(SnR²)₄Se₆] ( 8 ), and [(SnR⁴)₄Se₆] ( 9 ). Upon treatment of 4 with [Cu(PPh₃)₃Cl] and excess (SiMe₃)₂Se, the cluster fragments to form [(R¹Sn)₂Se₂(CuPPh₃)₂Se₂] ( 10 ), the first discrete Sn/Se/Cu cluster compound reported in the literature. The derivatization reactions indicate fundamental differences between organotin sulfide and organotin selenide chemistry.     

Theoretical and experimental studies on a compact stretcher with large spectral bandwidth and high transmission efficiency

To ensure safe and effective amplification for the chirped pulse amplification laser facility, many factors such as pulse spectral width, pulse duration, grating parameters and incidence angle parameter are considered carefully in the design of the pulse stretcher. A compact four pass Offner stretcher design is given out. Experiment results show that the stretcher has broad spectral width, large stretching ratio and high transmission efficiency. By comparison, the calculated result of the dispersion effect on the pulse duration is completely consistent with the experiment result.
